When I received notification that I was selected as a Ebony Power 100 Nominee, I cried. When you go into the service or non-profit sector, you do so with an unshakeable commitment to change. You build a brick wall against the negativity, you duck and dodge the self-doubt and you draw energy from everywhere.
I am honored to be recognized by Ebony Magazine because this publication has meant so much to black people. I grew up watching the stacks of Ebony & Jet Magazines at my grandmothers house and I knew that whoever or whatever was inside was of significance.
While I am receiving this honor, it is truly a gift for Donda’s House. For our Board of Directors, our staff, our volunteers and most of all our participants. We sometimes feel overlooked, unheard and overpowered, but today, Ebony Magazine is shining a light on us and we are forever grateful! Congratulations to all of the other honorees, and to all of those doing the hard work daily without recognition. This honor is for us all! Together, we are unstoppable!!!
