Decorating my house – indoors for now to celebrate the arrival of Spring. Here is my Spring mantel:
Crushing on this new OPI color Mermaid’s Tears:
Pondering my family history and documenting stories about my grandmother, great-grandmother and great grandfather who I know nothing about. Here is a page I made about my great-granny:
Listening to this song called “Chan Chan” by Buena Vista Social Club. They band is from Cuba. The song translates into a love song. I seriously can’t get enough of this:
Reflecting on the state of black America and more specifically black Chicago. My heart is broken for the little 6 month old baby girl Jonylah Watkins who was shot recently while having her diaper changed by her father at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon. When I was younger I used to have all of the answers for crime and poverty. Now I’m not so sure.
A group of activists have launched the Million Dollar Black Spending Power Campaign http://www.clutchmagonline.com/2013/03/activists-launch-campaign-to-spend-1-million-in-black-community/comment-page-1/. You can also learn more about the campaign here: http://www.buyblackallyearlong.com. I’m definitely planning to do my part by purchasing the “Around the Way” App that lets you locate black businesses as well as spending my minimum $20.00 with a black business. Black communities around the country are suffering from concentrated poverty and I’m happy to sign on to this campaign which seeks to affect he bottom line. I do believe that economic development is one of the steps we need to take.
Finally I’m praying for patience. I have some really big plans and goals and sometimes I get a little impatient. I feel like time is moving as slow as molasses but the reality is I’m on God’s time. As Bishop T.D. Jakes says “People who don’t understand God’s timing can become spiritually spastic, trying to make the right things happen at the wrong time.”
I’m also thankful for Clutch Magazine – it is my go-to source for all things cultural, all things woman and all things fabulous. Please do yourself a favor and bookmark this site NOW! http://www.clutchmagonline.com.
