Project Life 2012 – Week 9 Update

Wow… So excited that I am 9 weeks into Project Life!

It’s hard to believe but I have 40 Layouts in my album so far (with 20 page protectors)! My albums usually have about 45 page protectors (90 layouts). Here is my full collection of my scrapbooks:

Usually each album (We R Memory Keepers) holds about 90 layouts and for me that was about 3 years of life. Project Life is going to dramatically increase the number of albums that I have because I’m only going to be able to fit one year into each album instead of 3 years.

My albums up close.

Not only do I scrapbook photos and stories from my life. I also include articles from magazines and newspapers. I consider myself a historian and would like future readers of my albums (my future kids, step children and their kids) to learn not only about our personal lives but the world in general. To make it easy I purchase Clear Page Protectors (which you can find at any office supply store in a pack of 100 or 200) and they fit nicely into my 12 x 12 albums. Here are some examples:

This article was about former Mayor Daley (of Chicago) and his campaign finances.

This cover/article from Chicago Magazine details the 100 Most Powerful Chicagoans. Many of the people featured were individuals that my husband & I worked with in some capacity – especially during the campaign or even now.

Finally I am a huge fan of Beyonce (always have been). Read more about why I love her here: The pictures that they released publicly of her birth were absolutely stunning and it was certainly an important event in hip hop/pop culture history. Here are my pages (included in my Project Life Album) here:

On the right in an 8 1/2 x 11 page protector I typed up and printed out the lyrics to Jay-Z’s song “Glory” which he wrote about his daughter being born. I was moved by the song & by the birth of Blue Ivy because Bey & Jay had a miscarriage prior to baby Blue. The story represents the miracle that is life and I am just ecstatic for them!

With no further adieu, here are my Week 9 Layouts!

I used O Magazine as well as some clippings from the packaging of my office supplies. Major Spring Cleaning is happening in the Smith Household and it started with organizing files.

I had a spa day and wanted to capture that so the second page is dedicated to the very relaxing experience that I had at Spa Forever – THE BEST Spa in Chicago! I’m already thinking about my next visit.

  1. Sweet Donnie!!!
You are my inspiration! I am going to start a Project Life series as well because I think it is important that we be keepers of our story and the world’s story as we see it. I love the pages you’ve shown so far. If we get to link up next month, please bring one of the albums so I can look at it.

I am also waiting for the post on “how to scrapbook” for more pointers (hope I haven’t missed it).

As always–peace and blessings to you and your family 🙂

    1. Javetta! Thanks so much for the comment. I’ve been Scrapbooking for about 10 years now. Project Life would be a great way to ease into the hobby. I’m going to email the How to Scrapbook E-Book to you as soon as I get to my laptop & would be happy to share a few albums. I’m planning to come meet you when you have some down time while you’re hear for the conference 🙂

      1. YAY!! I look forward to meeting you…and yes THAT will become a page in my scrapbook :). I’ve done 3 in the last 10 years: one for my undergrad sorority chapter, one for my aunt’s 50th birthday celebration, and one for my teacher portfolio. I have never done one for me and I think it’s time….I look forward to the e-book and please let me compensate you for the book…I believe in supporting the writer’s livelihood!

  2. WOW!!! I love how you include “history” in your scrapbooks…it is so great for future generations to know about you but also the world how it wa for you has well…thanks for some gret ideas! I also love how you labled all your albums…I too have been scrappig for a long time but I am in the process of “redoing” alot of my albums some of the got damaged and I am trying to save some of my layouts…mind if I ask how yo did the beautiful lables on the outside of your ablbums? I would love to lable mine but can never get the lables to fit right.? thanks for all the wonderful inspiration, your pages are wonderful!

    1. Hi Dawn! Thanks so much for dropping by. As far as the labels, I take the label out of the label holder on the spine and then choose a piece of coordinated cardstock (usually from one of my scrap bags). Then I glue it onto the label. I type (in 9 or 10 point font) the title of the album in Microsoft Word (centered) and then I place the label on top of the printed out document and cut it out. I then glue it to the album.

I’m sorry to hear that some of your albums were damaged! I used to use post-bound albums and switched to ring albums. I wrote about the process here:

One of my favorite scrapbookers Ali Edwards wrote about her album organization and it would be a great resource!

Thanks again for visiting & for leaving a comment. Have a great day!
