I’ve been using Craigslist for about 5 years now and I must confess that I’ve purchased most of my furniture on there.
I purchased a 3 piece Room & Board Sectional Couch for $500.00 and my most recent find was a dining set (six chairs, a table and a buffet server) for $650.00.
Here are the other options that I considered:
And here is the set that found a home in my house. It retails for well over $1,000.00:
When shopping on Craiglist – keep the following tips in mind:
1. Search until you find what you really want. Especially if you’re in a major city. There are literally hundreds of listing every day. Don’t inquire about something unless you really want. Take advantage of the free search limits by entering your maximum budget and entering the keywords of what you’d really like.
2. Save time by only viewing listings with photos. I also prefer listings for sale by owner. I’m not a big fan of dealer listings, because personally if I wanted to buy from a store, I would.
3. Ask questions of the seller and go take a look at it. Be prepared to pay cash and bring a truck. In my city you can rent a U-Haul truck for about $19.95 per day + 99 cents per mile. Grab a strong friend and go get your goods. Never go to a seller alone.
4. Time is of the essence. If it’s a good deal, the seller will receive several inquiries. If another buyer really wants the piece, he/she may outbid you by $50 – $100. Some sellers also go based on whoever comes to pick up the item first. If you see a good deal MOVE on it quickly!
Craiglists is an excellent option to buy gently used goods! I have a hard time paying full price for anything. I’ve only purchased furniture on Craigslist. I don’t have the balls to search for electronics. Have you had any experiences with Craigslist?
