It is generally acknowledged that the Oprah Winfrey seal of approval translates into millions of dollars. If your product, your book or you yourself are featured on Oprah (or in O! Magazine) – your brand and your story are legitimized. One of the amazing things I’ve enjoyed seeing is the rise of Michelle Obama as a style icon. Even more impressive is that she mixes her designer duds with affordable options for regular women. According to mrs-o.org:

“…word came from Professor David Yermack of NYU Stern that H&M stock rose from 210.7 to 213.7 in Swedish krona on Wednesday, representing an increase of 1.43%. With 827 million shares outstanding, the company’s market capitalization rose by $384 million.”

NOTE: The first lady had a specially designed long sleeve version of this dress, but nonetheless, the sleeveless H & M option flew off the shelves!

A similar thing happened when she wore a White House Black Market dress on The View.

She also wears J. Crew clothing (mainly the cardigans) regularly.

It is wonderful to see a beautiful black woman garner so much influence and power.
